Amber (also referred to as the missing stripper) is a dead-on-arrival, minor character that appears in Hitman: Absolution. She appears in the mission "Hunter and Hunted" during the segment "Derelict Building".
Character Information[]
Throughout the first half of the Hunter and the Hunted portion of the game, it is known that Dom Osmond (and possibly Wade) raped and killed both Amber and another stripper (Known as Laurie) with a Billy club. It is first mentioned by the homeless man during the courtyard conversation that women will be taken to "Hawaii" which is considered a bad place.
No further mention of the serial killings occur until the Vixen Club level where a cop (Douglas Adams) will speak to some of the bouncers about finding a body that was raped and killed. After that, a customer, David Skarin will be talking to bouncer Robert Martin in front of Barbie Deep, begging to be let in but Robert will deny him.
Before leaving, David will ask Robert if Amber could leave a message for him. Throughout the level other various strippers will mention Amber. Those being Tara McGowan, June Drake, and Sindy Shrubs.
Upon entering the Dressing Rooms section (and after eliminating Dom Osmond), 47 will overhear a conversation discussing the manner in which Lydia Monteil was going to be another victim for Osmond, as she is not only mentioned in a phone call after Osmond's private dance to be used for the "Hawaii Show" but will also have a breakdown with other colleagues in the Dressing Rooms. Eventually, 47 will make his way into the Derelict Building. Here, both the Hawaii room (a makeshift tropical-themed photography studio with fake palm trees) and Amber's corpse can be found. Amber's body is located on an upper floor, past a partially collapsed stairway that has to be bypassed by shimmying across a narrow ledge remnant. It is possible to distract the police below by throwing her corpse down to the lower floor; beyond that, there is no way to interact with her.
If the player finds Amber's body it will be found sitting and leaning up against a ledge. The skin decaying but still recognizable. Amber will still be wearing her gold bikini. While inspecting closely it will appear her lipstick on her lips is starting to expire, her eyes have mascara tear stains under her eyelids and there are bruises on her face, ankles and wrists.
Behind the Scenes[]
In the game files, it appears that Amber's corpse originally had an unique role during development. Both her corpse model and unused Contracts Mode icon state her full name was "Beth 'Amber' Downing". Her unused Contracts Mode icon also depicts her as the "big-breasted brawler" stripper rather than having her own unique model. This implies at some point, Amber could've been found alive by the player at some point in development. Due to her full name going unused its unknown if the name is still "canon" or not.
According to the leaked PS3 August 3, 2012 (Phil Rogers) build, Amber's corpse was positioned completely differently. Facing down instead of sitting upleft in the final game. There also was no hint dialogue to have the player potentially throw her corpse over the dilapidated wooden railing but rather hint text about the officers below being completely oblivious to finding her. In the build, if the player does toss her corpse over the railing: No dialogue between the officers will be heard as they'll get startled and suspicious. David Crowd will also be the one to inspect her corpse everytime (or get stuck, running in circles around James Marshall).
Trivia[]
- When you come across the body you can't shoot it as you can only throw her over the ledge. When you throw the body over the ledge, you can shoot it with your silenced JAGD P22G a couple of times and the cops won't notice or care.
- It is mentioned earlier in the level "The Vixen Club" that they found a body raped and killed in an abandoned building. However the police will say that there's a body in the derelict building somewhere and when 47 dumps over Amber's corpse to distract the police, they will act as if they have just found Amber's corpse. Which is odd as its mentioned earlier that they found a corpse. This could be the stripper "Laurie" as mentioned earlier.
- If the player chooses to dump Amber's body over the ledge her mouth will still be agape. However when looking at it up close after the player dumps her body, her face will look indifferent.
- When the player dumps over Amber's corpse, the police will be startled and will say "That wasn't there a minute ago!" They will then approach the body looking startled and pointing flashlights at her face and chest. This distraction allows the player to slip past them.
- Exactly how Amber's body came to be placed in the upper level is not explained, since the staircase leading to it has collapsed and the player must climb to reach it.
