Blank Cheque is the first cinematic in the main story of HITMAN™ 2. It follows the mission Nightcall, but the cinematic is set in May 2020.
Summary[]
Following the successful mission against one of the Shadow Client's top lieutenants, Alma Reynard, Arthur Edwards and Providence give Diana Burnwood and the ICA free reign to target the Client's militia and other enemies of Providence. Diana and Agent 47 discuss Edwards' deal with the understanding that undertaking a contract in exchange for 47's lost origins is a personal motive, and therefore against ICA regulations. Regardless, Diana agrees the truth is worth breaking some rules.
Transcript[]
Agent 47 sits in silence in a hotel room as he studies the old photograph of himself as a child that Edwards gave to Diana. Scattered memories start to creep in, but 47 tucks the photo away. Diana contacts him over the phone.
Diana (COM): "Well, it's official. New Zealand paid off."
Diana overlooks the nighttime skyline from a high window, interspersed with 47 in the hotel.
Diana: "The client has given us carte blanche. Hunt down the militia by any means necessary."
Agent 47: "A week ago, Providence was the threat. How did you swing the Board?"
Diana: "The Board are practical people, 47. A blank check is hard to turn down. Besides."
Newsreel footage of attacks on CEOs plays in 47's suite.
Diana (COM): "The shadow client's war on Providence is causing a global panic. Someone will need to stop the militia. Might as well be us."
Agent 47: "And the man on the train? You never told them about his offer."
Diana: "Taking a contract for personal gain is against ICA regulations."
Agent 47: "Soders would have been proud."
Diana: "Is that a sense of humor, 47? Whatever next? Crying at the movies?"
Agent 47: "Why are you doing this?"
Diana: "I know what it's like to have everything taken from you."
47 listens intently.
Diana (COM): "He claims to know about your past. Your childhood. Your memories. Everything Ort-Meyer stole from you."
Agent 47: "And you trust him?"
Diana (COM): "About as far as I can throw him. But this is our best lead in twenty years. I say it's time we break a few rules."
Diana retreats into an elevator. The doors shut. Fade to black.
