Death in the Family is the second mission of HITMAN™ III. Agent 47 infiltrates Thornbridge Manor, the Carlisle Family's ancestral home in Dartmoor, England, in order to eliminate the third and final Providence Partner, Alexa Carlisle, in addition to acquiring intel to re-capturing The Constant by finding a case file on him.

Targets[]

Eliminate Alexa Carlisle

Objectives[]

Find the Case File

Exfiltrate[]

Locate the exit

End of the Line[]

Lucas Grey and Agent 47 approach a rocky moorland outside Thornbridge Manor.

Agent 47: "She came home."

Grey: "Carlisle's lost an empire. You fall hard enough and you tend to be reminded of what truly matters. So...the end of the line. You're ready for this?"

Agent 47: "Are you? Who will you be without a score to settle?"

Grey: "I guess the 'world's most wanted fugitive' will have to do."

The two men look towards the manor.

Diana Burnwood (VO): "Alexa Carlisle...is dead. According to the funeral invitation, that is. So, naturally, it caused quite a stir when the late matriarch turned up at the breakfast table alive and kicking. Carlisle, wisely sensing that her number is up, has emerged from exile to tie up loose ends and secure the Carlisle legacy. She may be a monster, but you have to admire her due diligence.

Carlisle descends from an ancient line of warrior aristocrats. Her great-grandfather made a killing in the second opium war and established an empire in shipping, railroads and newspaper publishing. While largely unknown to the public, the family still asserts its quiet dominance over global transport and logistics, media and technology.

Most senior of the partners, Alexa Carlisle is cold as ice, tough as nails and sharp as a razor. Incidentally, it was her late father who first brought the three families together after the end of WW2 at this very house. Meaning that this, gentlemen...is the birthplace of Providence."

Grey (VO): "It began here and it ends here. Talk about poetic."

Diana (VO): "One more thing; according to our intel, Carlisle keeps a case file on the Constant. Information that may be helpful in his recapture. So don't leave the estate without it."

Grey (VO): "Right. Happy hunting, 47. See you on the other side."

Description[]

Agent 47 and his allies have tracked Alexa Carlisle, the last remaining Providence Partner, to her ancestral manor home in Dartmoor, England. There, she has gathered her family to sort out her affairs, and to hold a memorial service for her faked death. However, the event has been marred by the sudden death of Carlisle's younger brother Zachary, prompting Carlisle to contact private detective Phineas Whitmer to quietly investigate.

47 must infiltrate the manor, eliminate Carlisle, and retrieve a case file containing information on Arthur Edwards, which can be done by taking the original file found somewhere in the manor, or by retrieving two tokens held by notable figures in the manor that grants access to a deposit box in the Milton-Fitzpatrick London branch, containing a copy of said file.

After completing the mission, 47's communication with Diana is unexpectedly cut off...

Escalation Contracts[]

There are currently five escalation contracts available in Dartmoor, three of which are only available by purchasing DLC:

* Only available in the World of Assassination Deluxe Edition, or sold seperately in the WOA Deluxe Pack or Hitman 3 Deluxe Pack.

† Only available in the World of Assassination Deluxe Edition, or sold seperately in the WOA Deluxe Pack, Seven Deadly Sins Collection or Seven Deadly Sins Act 3: Sloth.

‡ Only available in the World of Assassination Deluxe Edition, or sold seperately in the WOA Deluxe Pack, Seven Deadly Sins Collection or Seven Deadly Sins Act 7: Wrath.

Elusive Targets[]

This is a list of elusive targets available in Dartmoor, with reactivations occuring during HITMAN™ III.

Target Lockdown[]

If target lockdown is triggered, Alexa Carlisle will be escorted to one of three places: her Office, by the fireplace; her Bedroom, in the corner of the main room next to a closet; or the centre of the Small Office which contains the lawyer.

Trivia[]

  • The mission's name is possibly a reference to Batman: Death in the Family in which Jason Todd, Batman's partner dies. Similarly Lucas Grey, the 47's partner and friend dies in the cutscene after the mission.
  • This is one of the few missions in the main World of Assassination campaign to not have any security cameras, and one out of two missions outside of the prologue, the other one being Untouchable. Indeed, there are very few electronics on the map in general, other than a few laptops used by the inhabitants and the guard force.
    • Despite not having cameras in the Campaign, some were added in Freelancer.
  • This is the final mission to have Lucas Grey as client.
  • Several ideas involving the Dartmoor level include randomised killers and Emma Carlisle being a secondary target after the mystery was solved. The DLC developer commentary also mentions that the detective disguise was at one point intended to be easily obtainable at the very start of the map, but the team realized it took out the challenge of infiltrating the mansion.
  • The murder mystery subplot is a reference to whodunnit movies like Knives Out, especially this one since the mission takes place in a mansion where an important member of the family has been murdered and every family member is the potential killer.
  • This mission is very similar to the Hitman: Contracts mission Beldingford Manor, and even shares opportunities to eliminate the target by pillow-smothering, fireplace-exploding and whiskey-poisoning.
  • InHITMAN III™ VR: RELOADED, some footage from the original game's briefing cutscene, most notably the target's information, was included.
