Tomás Martins known as Espelho is a playable ICA agent in Hitman Snipers: The Shadows.

Description[]

"Espelho is the opposite of the sniper stereotype. But don't be fooled. Behind his engaging smile and enduring enthusiasm, he is a laser-accurate assassin who makes decisions within fractions of a second, and rarely misses a shot."

- Hitman Sniper: The Shadows website

"His precision and patience developed while hunting in his native forests. Espelho is known to be especially attentive during stakeouts. It is common for his to spend days watching a target, waiting for the opportune moment to strike."

-Hitman Sniper: The Shadows profile

Background[]

As a youth, Espelho was a proficient hunter of small forest animals. Often spending entire morning, immobile and waiting for a clear shot, so he could help feed his family. But never killing more than necessary. When an illegal logging operation burned down a neighboring village, killing two young girls in the process, Espelho sprang into action. He stalked their campsite, for days, until he could eliminate the three foreman. The remaining workers soon fled. Espelho continued wandering between remote villages within the jungle, halting advances of ranchers, miners, drug runners, and anyone looking to profit at the expense of others.

Espelho's constant hunt to kill on profiteers who would destroy the jungle and its inhabitants along with his vigilante actions have gained an attention from the ICA. Espelho is then recruited by the ICA under Initiative 426, The Shadows.

Trivia[]

  • Although Espelho's nationality is not specified, it is heavily implied that he is Brazilian (more precisely, a Brazilian descendant of indigenous people from the Northern Brazil):
    • His nickname "Espelho" translates as Mirror in Portuguese (If it were translated into Spanish, he would use "Espejo" or "El Espejo", which is how Mirror is translated into Spanish).
    • His surname, Martins, is a surname that is most common in Brazil and Portuguese-speaking countries, such as Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde and East Timor.
    • He wears an indigenous bandana on his head and an indigenous bracelet on his left hand, both worn by the natives of the indigenous peoples of Brazil and their descendants (only those who belong to one of the Brazilian indigenous tribes and/or their descendants can wear them freely).
    • It is known that before becoming a hitman and an ICA agent, he lived in a village located in a native forest and was a very skilled hunter (many indigenous people live in villages located in isolated places (mainly forests) and several of them are trained in the art of hunting since they were little).
    • Among the countless victims of Espelho, he killed illegal loggers, ranchers, illegal miners, drug traffickers and land grabbers (all of them in real life are considered enemies of Brazilian indigenous people and riverside people, since their greed is a threat to survival both indigenous peoples and riverside peoples).
  • Based on the pendants he wears around his neck, it is heavily implied that Espelho is a devout Catholic, as his right pendant has an image of a Saint while his left has a Christian Cross.
