"Lenny Dexter. Outcast. Black sheep. He took the girl to earn his father's admiration. Of all my enemies, he is the weakest link. Making him talk will not be a problem. But first I need to deal with his "Cougars." If I grab Lenny, they will surely try to interfere. Besides...they already know too much."
Mission description.[src]

Shaving Lenny is the ninth mission in Hitman: Absolution. It consists of 2 segments: Streets of Hope and Barbershop.

Mission Information[]

After successfully retrieving his Silverballers, Agent 47 makes his way to where the bartender he met when he first arrived in town said Lenny Dexter could be found: downtown Hope. It is here that Lenny's gang, the Hope Cougars, are nested.

In order to extract the location of Victoria and simultaneously thwart the Cougars' plan to conspire against Dexter Industries, 47 takes it upon himself to eliminate their entire roster.

Lenny meets a different fate than his cohorts: since he can't talk if he's dead, 47 opts to kidnap him instead.

E3 2012 Demo[]

During E3 2012 Travis (Part of the Community team) and Tore Blystad did a playthrough of an early pre-beta demo of the Shaving Lenny demo. Here will be a list of things that were cut, removed or reworked.

  • Gavin LeBlond originally had a lit cigarette on his ear.
  • The newspaper stand was facing a different direction.
  • There are many different early beta male NPC models walking around. This is to make the level feel real.
  • In the beginning alleyway where the player spawns a moped like motorcycle can be spotted.
  • Next to the Cherry Donuts shop was a bicycle against the wall.
    • A police officer was also leaning in front of the shop as well.
  • Inside the interiors of each building showcase posters for a company titled "GT Oil". We were originally gonna visit a gas station like mission during the game. The poster was cut in favor for the Rex Gas posters.
  • All across town was Sheriff Skurky propaganda posters. These were removed in favor of the Hope County Fair posters.
  • The side door for the Convenience store was originally always open with a bicycle leaning near the door as well.
  • The Hula Girl melee weapon can be spotted on a shelf in the gameplay demo. As shown it is used as a prop than a weapon.
  • The green truck in front of the Convenience store is replaced by an old orange muscle car.
  • The conversation Lucy Hough has with her friend Pam originally took place behind the counter. This was moved near some of the aisles.
  • The old couch in the middle of the upstairs room in the Convenience store originally didn't exist.
  • Old weapon icons are very old. The weapons are all black and white. The C4 detonator wasn't originally modelled in yet.
  • The golden silverballer is used primarily.
  • There was originally a police officer who stood in front of the purple car in front of the "Bennet Garage".
  • Inside the garage originally existed a yellow tool-box. This was removed in the final version of the game.
  • Many different tools, props and auto props were removed inside the garage as well due to unknown reasons.
  • An old fashioned generator existed in the upstairs portion of the garage. It was moved.
  • When the playtesters subdue Landon Metcalf there is a completely different animation used.
    • A completely removed feature is shown thanks to this. If the player subdued an enemy. Their icon showed them sleeping. With three letter Z's going across their icon. Despite this being reworked and eventually cut it did make it's way into HITMAN™.
  • The two showcase how C4 worked. Causing a few cars to explode. Leading to multiple NPC's dying and big black smog to rise into the air. Over time this scene was reworked and cut.
  • Dialogue of NPC's finding C4 or going near C4 was removed as well.
  • The orange wrecked van was originally an older van that was green.
  • There was originally a Wood Portable Toilet located in front of Flash's cage. This was later moved to Attack of the Saints.
  • Gnomes were originally spread out in the junk-yard.

Barbershop[]

  • The dog easter egg was originally near the dumpsters and electrical outlets. A "Perverted Cop" watched. This was re-worked for the easter-egg to be put in a cage.
  • The Lighter Fuel was originally on an old brick wall rather than inside the basement.
  • The reload sound effect for the silverballers is much more loud and irritating.
  • Originally Todd the barber was going to be an NPC in the game. Cleaning Lenny's rented room. He was a weak and fragile old man. The play-testers do kill him to take his disguise.
    • Todd had an instinct highlight of his model. Implying he was cut way later in the games development.
    • Inside the Barbershop was a massive party. There consists of women, and lots of men.
      • Some of the women NPCs re-used previous NPC models. I.E. Barbie Deep, Lauren Blair, Irene Surber etc.
      • Barbie Deep's model was altered in the demo. Her shorts use a darker blue texture, her tube top had an unknown logo to some in-game company and she was wearing a cowboy hat.
      • There was an NPC who played the electric guitar on the couch. This sequence was ultimately cut for unknown reasons.
      • Originally Lenny had a group of body guards. These guys were ultimately cut. One of the bodyguards carried a shotgun that isn't in the final version of the game.

Ultimately many things were cut. Including NPCs, characters, weapons, props and dialogue. It's unknown why the mission was downgraded but it could be engine issues.

Trivia[]

  • This mission used to be known as Streets of Hope, this name is now used as the first segment.
  • A Notebook was once required to fulfill the Lost & Found for the mission. However, due to it being trapped within the geometry of the level, it was patched and removed.
  • The television that the police are watching is showing a later cutscene with Clive Skurky and Mrs Cooper, the film is censored for some reason.
  • If you kidnap Lenny using the barber method and his "Cougars" are dead, the cop nearby won't be react to 47's doing.
  • This mission has the second most targets (of Absolution) with Attack Of The Saints being the first with 7 targets, this mission only involves 5 targets.
  • In the second half of this mission, if you go to the fenced off kennel next to the barbecue, there is an easter egg where two dogs are having sex doggy style.
  • This is the mission with most in common to the original hitman games, since there are multiple targets and there are no areas without targets.
  • If you throw the bone into the kennel with the barking dog, the dog will pick it up and stop barking.
  • You will never be able to cross the railroad tracks since a train happens to be passing through town whenever you approach said railroad tracks. A tooltip mentions that "This train seems to go on forever..."
  • Since the Cougars are bosses, they will never check out distractions if a regular NPC also heard it as well regardless of the distances.
  • The barbershop segment's main area, the barbershop is named "Todd's Barbershop" this may be a reference to "Sweeny Todd" a movie about a killer barber.
