Freedom Fighters is the seventh main mission in HITMAN™. Agent 47 is tasked with the assassination of Sean Rose, Penelope Graves, Ezra Berg and Maya Parvati.

Objectives:

  • Infiltrate the tornado shelter (optional in HITMAN™ 2)

Description

Following Diana's lead that a Shadow Client has been manipulating world events via Agent 47's missions, the ICA have been tracking Olivia Hall, a brilliant hacker who put the clients in contact with the ICA. Following Hall's trail has led the ICA to a militia group led by environmental terrorist Sean Rose, who is believed to be the one responsible for Thomas Cross' kidnapping.

Erich Soders assigns 47 to infiltrate the militia's HQ in Colorado and eliminate Rose along with three other militia members: Former Mossad interrogator Ezra Berg, former Interpol analyst Penelope Graves and former gunrunner and pirate Maya Parvati. Diana however, is suspicious of Soder's insistence on destroying the militia before finding out its true intent, and asks 47 to investigate further during his mission.

After eliminating all targets, 47 discovers a hidden shelter, which the real Shadow Client has been using as a war room. Inside, he and Diana discover the Shadow Client has been tracking 47's career as an assassin for years, and has been tracking the members of Providence, a secret organisation of wealthy politicians and kingmakers running the world in secret. Reading a list of known Providence associates, Diana is shocked to see Erich Soders' name. 47 makes his escape, unaware that the Shadow Client is watching nearby...

Mission Briefing

Diana Burnwood (VO): "Good morning, 47. We have a lead on the shadow client. ICA white hats have traced the anonymous data received by our client to one Olivia Hall. Brilliant young hacktivist and suspect in a dozen cases of cyber vandalism. Using onion routing with state-of-the-art encryption, Hall went through a lot of trouble to stay untraceable. She is good, but we are better.

Her digital trail has led us to a remote farm in Colorado, where satellite footage has revealed what appears to be the training camp for a private militia. Led by an already registered target, Sean Rose, Australian environmental terrorist and explosives expert, wanted for a series of public bombings. Rose was spotted near the scene of Thomas Cross' kidnapping, which makes him our prime suspect for the shadow client.

Spurred by Erich Soders, the ICA board of directors has asked us to infiltrate the farm and eliminate Sean Rose along with three other prominent militia members. Ezra Berg, retired Mossad interrogator. Penelope Graves, former Interpol anti-terror analyst. And finally, Maya Parvati, former assassin and gunrunner for the Tamil Tigers.

I'll be honest with you, 47. I consider Erich Soders' reasoning hasty and ill-advised. Now, we cannot go against the wishes of the board. But we can conduct our own investigation. Whether a direct threat to the ICA or not, we need to know the shadow client's true agenda.

Fascinating. According to the blueprint, Sean Rose is building an explosive battery unit for a Link 4 smartwatch. The charge appears to be email triggered. The unassuming target checks his messages, the virus triggers the charge, and 'boom'. Very clever, not to mention devious. The resident hackers have installed the software trigger on one of their phones. And here is a punch line: Rose himself wears a Link 4.

So, Sean Rose ordered a batch of explosive gel. What could possibly do wrong?

This sounds promising. The militia received a large shipment of nitroglycerin this morning, which is now stored at a munitions depot. Apparently, Rose himself plans to apply and test the gel as soon as a sample is ready.

Point Man

So. There's been a training accident. Well, misery loves company.

A battering ram has injured one of the strike team. Point man by the name of Burgess. And according to those militiamen, Maya Parvati likes to oversee training. Sounds promising, I suggest you infiltrate the strike team, 47. Perhaps you can relieve the hapless point man of his duties.

The Audition

Sean Rose is out to perform a small test on Penelope Graves. Hm, maybe you can assist, 47.

Penelope Graves is still new to this outfit, and it looks like Rose is going to test her dedication to the cause. He's arranged for one of the communications technicians to act as an outside agent. The tech is supposed to show her an Interpol badge and escort her to the slurry pit, asking her to betray the militia. Might I suggest a last minute recasting, 47.

So the legendary Ezra Berg. Sounds like an overdose waiting to happen.

Ezra Berg, legendary Mossad operative who specializes in chemical interrogation techniques, is here at the compound to interrogate a prisoner. My notes indicate he's set up a makeshift drug lab in the garage and it looks like he's spending a lot of time in the basement. Could be an opportunity here, 47.

Unclean

Huh, Sean Rose is hypersensitive to hallucinogens. Could be useful.

Intriguing. According to Graves' ledger on Sean Rose, he is hypersensitive to the effect of drugs, in particular, hallucinogens. Last time he tried, it triggered a nasty psychotic episode, channeling his fear of germs. Interestingly, the ledger also contains a record of his most recent OCD attack: "desk", "grandfather clock" and "faucet". Hmm. Rose appears to smoke cigarettes when he gets agitated. What if...?

The militia has acquired a state-of-art 3D printer which they use to manufacture life-like facial masks, probably for some kind of infiltration mission. According to the militiamen, one of the hackers is keeping Sean Rose's biometric data in his laptop.

Notes containing observations on Ezra Berg's chemically-assisted interrogation of the prisoner. It read like a student's observations of a master's work and dutifully notes Berg's questions and the mixtures he creates in his makeshift lab. It also notes that Berg frequently uses his Bunsen burner for his experiments, and a reminder to keep all flammables away from the lab.

The farm's tornado shelter is protected by an advanced biometric lock. This must be the militia's command room. Once the targets are eliminated the shelter is likely our best shot to discover their agenda. According to the farm's layout, the entrance is through the basement.

A memo from Sean Rose describing the need to refurbish the main house garage into a functional laboratory for Ezra Berg's chemical experiments. It's stressed that the lab needs a lock and must be equipped with high-end tools for analysis and manufacture of various types of drugs.

Rose is unable to medicate himself, as a childhood episode with LSD rendered him hyper-sensetive to drugs of any kind. If you could get your hands on some hallucinogens, Rose could be going on quite a trip, 47.

The militia is a motley crew of mercenaries, freedom fighters, intelligence specialists, cyber-criminals and political terrorists like Sean Rose. To unite these faction, the shadow client must have found some kind of common cause.

According to the militiamen, Sean Rose is only the head of operations. He cannot be the shadow client. Whoever thier top leader is, he is clearly driven, resourceful and immensely capable. This, however, does not change Rose's target status.

  • The mission name "Freedom Fighters" is a reference to the 2003 third-person shooter game of the same name, also by IO Interactive.
  • Sean Rose is mentioned for a final time in Hitman 2's debut mission, Nightcall, by Alma Reynard, his former partner. Alma suggest her house says "Welcome Alma and Sean 2" when Orson arrives with her. (Orson is Alma's new partner).
  • One of the militia members reappears in the mission Nightcall, now working for Alma Reynard as a guard. He can be overheard discussing the event, still unnerved by how 47 managed to inflitrate the compound and kill all four targets without anybody noticing, likening it to "death itself stalking the camp".
  • Completing the "Wicker Man" challenge will give 47 the supernatural power to burn anyone who is near him. He will lose this power if he changes the scarecrow disguise, but will regain it if he re-acquires the scarecrow disguise. This is a reference to a 1973 horror film of the same name, also set in a rural location.
  • Donald Trump is indirectly mentioned in a casual conversation between two guards.[1]
  • Completing the "Howdy Partner" challenge will make the nearby guards stop their military drill & dance to Texan instrumental music.
