Showdown Trick. Secret zones unlocked by golden idols are accessible in Freelancer mode with the idols found in loot crates, even if their Campaign counterparts have been removed. By activating a burner phone in these zones, your suspect's entire network can be lured into ready-made traps and kill funnels.

- The Gold Idols in Santa Fortuna and the Isle of Sgàil are necessary to open up secrets that reward the player with a Sacrificial Knife.
- The idol in Santa Fortuna is located in the shopkeeper's house, located at the top of the hill in front of the slope on the side of the road nearest the harbor. The house must be unlocked with the owner's key (which is carried on his person) and will vanish if the door is forced open. It is visible through the window and can be seen phasing briefly out of existence when as door is unlocked. It can then be taken to the tunnel, where placing it in the proper location will open a small secret area.
- This item is one of few items that is illegal to pick up, but not to hold or carry around, sharing a similar distinction to that of the Walking Cane.
- The U'wa Idol in Codename 47 is similar to this item. Its use in Santa Fortuna also mirrors events from this game.
- The idol is needed to complete the Say Hello To My Little Friend challenge.
- Although made of gold, the Idol is neither a placed lure nor a spark source.
