- "Welcome agent, This ICA Companion App is designed to keep track of your performance in the field. We are giving you clearance to enter the mainframe of the ICA network, use it wisely..."
- ―Diana Burnwood
Hitman: ICA (also known as Hitman: Companion App or Hitman: Absolution Companion App) was an app developed by IO-Interactive and published by Square Enix. It was used for Hitman: Absolution's Contracts Mode, campaign and sniper challenge, and allowed players to remotely manage their operations in Contracts Mode. It was even possible to check scores and more from Hitman: Blood Money.
Features[]
- "Join the International Contract Agency as a professional Hitman. Track your career, plan your Contracts, browse the extensive statistics, evaluate your style and manage your Intel. Everything the Ultimate Assassin needs to give him the edge."
- ―The App's Slogan
Once logged in with a Square Enix account, the player can purchase and upgrade weapons and disguises that were available in the Contracts Mode. The players could sort contracts in a queue to play later in the game. As the player achieved ratings and stats in the storyline, the rating would update automatically in the game. By using the app, players gained various rewards on their assignments, compare performances with other players, browse contracts, and queue contracts for later.
Reception[]
The app was given positive to mixed reviews with many players hoping the app makes a return to the new release of Hitman 2016. Unfortunately, it did not. After 2016 the app was practically abandoned by the Hitman Community and was only used for Absolution Contract Modes. In May 2018, the app was removed from stores due to IO Interactive not owning or controlling the online servers but needing to comply with GDPR legislation. The announcement of the shutdown implies that it was at least initially intended to be temporary, but both the app and mode have not yet resurfaced.
Trivia[]
- Many of the gameplay footage used for the app was E3 2011-12 footage of Absolution.
- In 2018 a few months before the app was shut down, the app entered version 1.2 in which it gave support to the HITMAN: HD Trilogy and added 29 new ICA files from Absolution.
- Those ICA Files are not known, however are speculated to be the trailers on Youtube.
- In Absolution, despite the ICA already owning their own version of an ICA Tablet, IO still decided to model and develop a new tablet model based off an IPAD.
- The KAZO TRG sound effect isn't from Absolution, rather from the Xbox exclusive indie game, Murder Miners.
