John Stubbs (also known as The Veteran) is a target in HITMAN™. He appears in the mission of the same name and was one of The Sarajevo Six, a group of war criminals that were targeted by the International Contract Agency.
Background[]
Sigma Unit[]
John Stubbs role in SIgma Unit is not clarified during the campaign, though an in-game phone call between him and Patrick Morgan suggests he was less specialized than his partners Gary Lunn and Walter Menard (marksman and extraction specialist, respectively). He also mentions that they were a higher rank than him, along with Scott Sarno and Taheiji Koyama. As part of Sigma Unit, Stubbs was involved in several operations of questionable or outright immoral and illegal nature, including against civilians. Among the operations he was involved with, he makes mention of having extracted a journalist from Riga, who Sigma Unit then brought the Russian border, into the hands of the FSB. The journalist was subsequently found dead in a car wreck two months later. According to him, Sigma Unit were motivated solely by money, rather than any moral or idelogical reasons.
Retirement[]
He is one of the only two members of Sigma Unit to have retired, along with Koyama, and seemingly also suffers from guilt over his actions as a mercenary. He is revealed to have hired a writer, intending to publish a book based on his experiences, though it is implied to be presented as a fictional narrative.
He is also seemingly aware of the threat on his life, having figured out that the deaths of his former partners Sarno, Lunn and Menard were not accidental, but deliberately planned. Despite this, he doesn't attempt to keep a low profile, instead travelling the world along with his wife, using the money he earned during his days as a mercenary which, according to Diana, is how the ICA managed to track him down. The only actions he appears to take are to contact Patrick Morgan to warn him, and asking his writer to, no matter what happens, publish the book about Sigma Unit.
