"We need to set up security at the wall entrance."
Lawrence in the mission.

Lawrence Trent (also known as "Agent/Unit 4") is an unique minor character in Hitman: Absolution. He appears in the mission "A Personal Contract" during the first segment, "Gardens". He is also classified as an optional target in the mission as well.

Overview[]

When Agent 47 sneaks into Diana Burnwood's mansion to assassinate her, while infiltrating the front gate area, a member of the hired travel agency can be heard speaking to the head of security, Dale McCormick about setting up multiple security measures at the wall's entrance. Those being surveillance cameras, motion detectors and the new state-of-the-art "Sentry guns" as anyone would "walk right in"[1]. After his line of dialogue he'll closely inspect a box of unused monitors.

Behind the Scenes[]

According to the leaked August 3rd, 2012 prototype build of Absolution, evidence points that originally: Lawrence never had any of the aforementioned scripted dialogue established above in the retail game. Originally he would walk over to the box of monitors to inspect them however IO-Interactive used Lawrence for an unused tutorial in the prototype. The scrapped tutorial involving 47 being tasked with using either a Brick or Wrench to be tossed into the buckets to distract Lawrence in allowing 47 to sneak past. This segment was cut in favor of 47 being tasked with optionally killing or sparing Lawrence.

Lawrence's unused Contracts Mode name being re-enabled through modifying the game files.

When the Contracts Mode was released, four segments were dropped from the mode. Those being: Gardens (only saved for Manuel Francis' Contracts tutorial), Greenhouse, Cliffside and Mansion 2nd Floor. Due to this change, it lead to many names of unidentified minor character NPC's to be left unknown. Thankfully in the game files for Absolution (or modding the game) Lawrence's name can still be found and re-enabled with help of enabling string in the game files. His unused Contracts Mode icon can be found in the files as well. Its up to the player if his unused name is canon or not.

Trivia[]

  • Lawrence makes mentions of "new automatic sentry guns" which are never seen or introduced in the series. One is somewhat seen in HITMAN™ through the APC Turret seen in the mission "A Gilded Cage".
  • Due to the mission disabling the point system in every segment, except Mansion Ground Floor with the game also telling the player they can kill Lawrence. He is an optional target in Absolution, as its up to the player whether or not he lives or dies.
  • Lawrence is the first NPC the player comes across in Absolution.
  • It's assumed that Lawrence later finds the unconscious body of Greenbourne in the back of the ice-cream truck, thanks to Dale McCormick dialogue seen later in the game.
