"Le Chiffre" is a character from the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, and an Elusive Target in HITMAN™ III. He is a calculating banker who manipulates the stock market and finances terrorist organizations.
He is voiced by and modelled on famous Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, reprising his role as Le Chiffre from Casino Royale. In the 2008 007: Quantum of Solace video game, Le Chiffre's name was revealed to be Jean Duran, although this is most likely non-canonical.
Background[]
Le Chiffre's primary motivation is financial gain, famously stating his belief in a "reasonable rate of return." After losing over €100 million in a failed stock manipulation, he has organized a high-stakes poker game at the Palais de Walewska in Paris, France to recover his losses. This is his last desperate gamble to avoid financial ruin.
But be warned: no player has ever beaten him and lived to tell the tale. Forensics have consistently found traces of botulinum toxin in the victims' systems-believed to be Le Chiffre's signature poison. If he offers you anything, think twice before accepting.Description and Behavior[]
Calculating and ruthless financial mastermind, Le Chiffre amassed his fortune by manipulating global markets, engineering disruptions to trigger stock fluctuations he could profit from. However, a recent operation ended in failure, plunging him into a dire financial situation and costing him both legal and illicit capital.
In a last-ditch effort to recover, he has organized a high-stakes poker tournament at the Casino Monarchique in Paris. He intends to use most of the potential winnings to finance a dangerous network led by Vicente Murillo, a ruthless Bolivian fascist military leader to whom he owes a substantial debt, in hopes of avoiding a deadly fate at his hands.
Le Chiffre is in the VIP room on the upper floor of the casino where an invitation is required to access. A bodyguard will escort Agent 47 to meet him, where they will briefly talk over a drink before the poker game begins. After the first round, it turns out that 47 has been poisoned by Le Chiffre and must make his way to the parking lot to retrieve an antidote. If he fails to reach it in time, he will lose consciousness and awaken tied up in the basement, held captive by Le Chiffre’s men. Fortunately, Agent Carlton Smith will arrive just in time to rescue him, handing over his suit so 47 can return to the game. In the second round, 47 can ensure Le Chiffre’s defeat by threatening the croupier named Mr. Jameson, ultimately leading to Le Chiffre’s execution at the hands of Vicente himself.
