Long Shot is the fifth cinematic in the main story of HITMAN™ 2, and this cinematic is set in September 2020, almost one week prior to the assassination of Janus and Cassidy.

At his Berlin safehouse, Lucas Grey explains to Diana Burnwood the story of he and Agent 47's past and the need to stop Providence by finding the Partners, whose identities are only known by the organization's second Constant: ICA's current client, and a man who can only be traced by locating his predecessor, the first Constant. Concerned by this conflict of interest as well as Grey and his militia's MO, Diana argues with Grey and Hall but is convinced into falsifying their lead back to the ICA when 47 breaks the stalemate by agreeing to continue his long-lost plan. With the stolen antidote provided by Grey, 47 is able to dive into his memories and recall the name of the first Constant.

Agent 47, Diana Burnwood, Lucas Grey and Olivia Hall gather around a safehouse table.
Grey: "We were going to tear it all down. The Institute. Providence. Everyone who'd ever hurt us. We failed. The Partners grew paranoid. Made sure that Ort-Meyer's children would never challenge them again. I'm the only one who got away unchanged. The only one left who remembers."
Diana: "Ort-Meyer was Providence."
Diana: "I'm breaking more rules than I care to count, Mr. Grey. What's your play?"
Grey: "The Partners hide behind a cloak of anonymity. Only one man knows their true identities. Your client, the top controller. The one they call the Constant. He is the key."
Diana: "But he is untraceable. So what am I missing?"
Grey: "A man would come to the Institute."
In a past memory, we see Subject 47, Ort-Meyer, and the mysterious man from 6's perspective.
Grey (VO): "A man with a Providence pin. The first Constant."
Grey leans toward Diana.
Grey (CONT'D): "If we find him...if he's still alive, he's our way in."
Diana: "You don't know who he is, but 47 does. That's what this reunion is all about."
Grey: "Show them."
Hall: "You're just going to hand it over? Our one bargaining chip."
Grey: "Olivia..."
Hall: "Fine. 47's memory was erased. Irreversibly, at the time. But after Ort-Meyer's death, his estate was acquired by the Ether Corporation. And they made an antidote."
Hall opens a briefcase containing the antidote, the device which Grey previously stole from Ether.
Grey: "It's a long shot, I know."
Diana: "This is not how it works. We don't just join the revolution. ICA is neutral. We don't take sides."
Hall: "I hate to break it to you, lady, but neutrality is a side. It's the side of the status quo."
Diana: "People have died. Civilians. You align yourself with terrorists. Murderers..."
Grey: "Sometimes even monsters serve a purpose."
Diana: "Look--"
Agent 47: "Enough. You have a choice. But I made mine a long time ago. I will finish what I started."
Beaten, Diana texts an encrypted message back to the ICA: "Romania site abandoned. Lucas Grey location unknown." 47 hands the antidote to Grey, who injects it into his neck. In a flashback to his childhood, he remembers Ort-Meyer and the mysterious man.
Ort-Meyer: "Subject 47. Most gifted of all my boys."
Janus: "So you're the pick of the litter. Tell me about the incident."
Ort-Meyer: "The subject ran away. He and another boy. The instigator was punished accordingly."
Subject 6, in hiding, watches the confrontation. Bodybags can be seen strewn beside them.
Janus: "As were all the neighbors."
Ort-Meyer: "My men did what needed to be done."
Suddenly, 47 lunges at the man, knocking the Providence pin off his lapel, in plain view of 6. The man grabs 47 by the throat.
Janus: "It won't happen again. Bring your house in order, doctor. You won't like the alternative."
In the present, 47 recuperates on the couch with Diana and Grey.
Agent 47: "I remember who he is."
