Mastery progression is a game mechanic first introduced in HITMAN™. In HITMAN™ and HITMAN™ 2, all locations (excluding the ICA Facility) feature levels of Mastery which serve as measures of completion of their respective location. Advancing through a location's Mastery Level is accomplished by beating challenges that reward varying levels of XP (each mastery level requires 6,000 XP points), and doing so unlocks new options that allow you take different approaches when tackling a mission. Such options include:

  • Starting Locations, which let players start missions from alternate positions on the map.
  • Agency Pickup locations, which let players acquire additional gear from certain positions on the map.
  • New gear and weapons, which can be brought and used in any location that features Mission Planning.
  • Loadout slots. A small number of locations begin with restricted Mission Planning. Until a certain level of Mastery is reached, the player will be unable to bring additional gear into missions.

HITMAN™ 2's Sniper Assassin game mode also features Mastery progression, in the form of sniper rifle upgrades. Unlike the standard sandbox locations, levelling up a Sniper Assassin location's Mastery Level is not done by completing challenges, but rather by completing its respective mission repeatedly. The score earned when completing a mission is used to progress, and completing challenges instead offer score multipliers.

7 Starting Location Undercover in AV Center 47 has infiltrated the company providing AV tech for the Sanguine show and begins the mission on the first floor, disguised as one of the tech crew.
8 Agency Pickup Logistics Trailer The ICA can smuggle a large, secure case onto palace grounds inside a transport truck.
9 Starting Location Undercover in Locker Room 47 has infiltrated the palace and beings the mission in the basement locker room, disguised as a chef.
10 Pistol ICA Silverballer A tactical pistol. Custom slide with suppressor. Low rate of fire, with high damage.
11 Poison Sedative Poison Vial A vial of poison. Contains a single dose of sedative. Any individual dosed will immediately slip into unconsciousness. May be administered via food or drink.
12 Starting Location Palace Garden 47 has already joined the party and begins the mission in the garden next to the cocktail reception.
13 Hidden Stash Top Floor Bathroom The ICA can hide a small item inside the toilet cistern of a top-floor bathroom.
14 Starting Location Attic 47 has infiltrated the palace and begins the mission in the upstairs attic.
15 Pistol TAC-SMG A modern submachine gun. Lightweight, with excellent rate of fire and precision.
16 Hidden Stash Newspapers The ICA can conceal a small item inside a stack of newspapers in the palace owners' apartment.
17 Starting Location Pile-Driver Barge 47 has chosen a sniper vantage point overlooking the rear of the palace and begins the mission atop the pile-driver barge.
18 Agency Pickup Empty Attic Room The ICA can smuggle a large, secure case into the attic above the Palais de Walewska.
19 Starting Location Undercover at IAGO Auction 47 has joined the IAGO Auction and begins the mission on the top floor.
20 Pistol HWK 21 Covert A modern light pistol. Rapid firing with good magazine capacity.
Explosive ICA Remote Explosive A modular explosive device designed by the ICA. Detonated remotely. Highly suspicious if noticed.

Sapienza

5 Explosive Remote Breaching Charge An explosive device designed to breach doors. Will destroy the lock when detonated. Relatively quiet.
6 Hidden Stash Mansion Garage The ICA can smuggle a small item into a jacket pocket in the mansion garage.
7 Starting Location Undercover in Mansion Kitchen 47 has infiltrated the mansion kitchen and begins the mission disguised as a chef.
8 Agency Pickup Sapienza Ruins The ICA can smuggle a large, secure case into the ruins overlooking Villa Caruso.
9 Starting Location Undercover as Security Staff 47 has infiltrated the Villa Caruso security team and begins the mission as mansion security.
10 Distraction ICA Remote Audio Distraction An audio distraction device. Remotely triggered. Will attract an individual in hearing range. Expect security staff to investigate if present.
Poison Lethal Poison Vial A vial of poison. Contains a single dose of a lethal poison. Will result in immediate death of the target. Can be administered via food or drink.
11 Starting Location Undercover in Field Lab 47 has infiltrated deep into the field lab beneath Villa Caruso, disguised as a lab technician. He can begin the mission from there.
12 Hidden Stash Mansion Pantry The ICA can smuggle a small item into a stack of food crates in the mansion kitchen.
13 Starting Location Harbor 47 has arrived from the waterfront by boat and can begin his mission from the Sapienza Marina.

5 Melee Combat Knife A military knife made of stainless steel. Designed for close-quarters engagement.
6 Starting Location Undercover at the Snail Stand 47 has infiltrated the bazaar and he begins the mission cooking snails, disguised as a local food vendor.
7 Agency Pickup West Bazaar Rooftops The ICA has placed a large secure case on one of the rooftops close to a good vantage point overlooking the bazaar and consulate in Marrakesh.
8 Starting Location Undercover in Zaydan's Compound 47 has infiltrated General Zaydan's forces and begins the mission inside the compound, disguised as a soldier.
9 Hidden Stash Shisha Cafe Restroom The ICA can hide a small item inside the toilet cistern in the shisha cafe's Courtyard Club restroom.
10 Pistol ICA19 F/A A tactical pistol. Custom slide. Capable of automatic fire.
Poison Emetic Poison Vial A vial of poison. Contains a single dose of an emetic poion. WHen consumed, an individual will immediately become nauseated and seek a location to throw up in. Can be administered via food or drink.
11 Starting Location Undercover on the West Bazaar Rooftop 47 has infiltrated a local electronics company and has found a sniper vantage point overlooking the bazaar and consulate. He begins the mission here.
12 Agency Pickup Old Headmaster's Terrace The ICA has placed a large secure case on the house terrace of an aspiring and preoccupied novelist. This location is now available during planning.
13 Starting Location Lamp Store Rooftop 47 has chosen a vantage point overlooking the city and begins the mission on a lamp store's rooftop.
14 Hidden Stash Consulate Top Floor The ICA can smuggle a small item in one of the consulate's cleaning carts.
15 Explosive Remote Explosive Duck A medium explosive device designed to resemble a rubber duck. Detonated remotely. Exercise caution when placing. Will attract casual attention if spotted.

19 Agency Pickup School Gate The ICA can smuggle a large secure case to the back entrance of the old school.
20 Assault Rifle TAC-4 AR Stealth A modern bullpup assault rifle. Fully automatic. Has a powerful suppressor attached.
Explosive Proximity CX Demo Block A block of Composition 10 plastic explosive. Shaped for use in demolitions or improvised explosive snares. Integrated proximity trigger. Exercise caution when placing.

5 Melee Nne Obara's Machete A bloodied machete that once belonged to Nna Obara. Lethal and suspicious.
6 Agency Pickup Penthouse The ICA has placed a large secure case in the southern penthouse.
7 Starting Location Undercover at the Himmapan Bar 47 has infiltrated the Himmapan Hotel staff and begins the mission as a bartender at the waterfront bar.
8 Hidden Stash Ground Floor Restaurant Restroom The ICA can hide a small item inside the toilet cistern in one of the restrooms in the hotel restaurant.
9 Starting Location Undercover in the Restaurant Kitchen 47 has infiltrated the Himmapan restaurant and begins the mission disguised as a chef.

19 Starting Location Undercover in the 2nd Floor Hallway 47 has infiltrated the recording crew and begins the mission on the second floor.
20 Pistol Krugermeier 2-2 A low velocity, small caliber pistol. Originally designed for special-forces use and to make as little noise as possible. Ineffective at medium-to-long ranges.
Distraction "Mixtape 47" A distraction device. Plays a selection of music. Remotely triggered. Will attract an individual in hearing range. Expect security staff to investigate if present.

6 Starting Location Undercover in the Garage 47 has infiltrated the militia, and begins the mission in the garage disguised as a militia technician.
7 Hidden Stash Hay Shed The ICA can conceal a small item in the hay barn.

8 Starting Location Restaurant 47 starts in the tranquil Sakura restaurant.

Unlock Loadout All Loadout Slots Available Gives you the option to use loadout slots during the planning phase of the mission. This can be used to bring items you have unlocked into the level.
