McGarmond's Gun Shop (also known as McGarmond's Guns & Firearms, Dukes Gunshop and the Gun Shop) is a business that sells firearms, sub-machine guns, and long rifles in Hope, South Dakota it appears during the mission "Birdie's Gift" in Hitman: Absolution.

History[]

The Gun Shop[]

As stated in game the Gun Shop was founded in 1922 by Robert S. Dukes' family. Overtime Blake Dexter visited the establishment and began to fund the location with it even being advertised in the Hope News Times newspapers. Inside the establishment itself is a vast array of firearms and weaponry. There is also two shooting ranges. The outdoor and open shooting range and the small duckling shooting range. Near the entrance of the outdoor shooting range is a scoreboard with Lilly S. Dukes at the top with a total of 471 points.

Sometime during the events of Absolution, Birdie sold or donated 47's Silverballers to the Dukes. 47 eventually is sent to retrieve them as well.

Mission Objective[]

Agent 47 is led to go to the Gun Shop to retrieve his Silverballers and leave. He can do so in three ways. Those being:

  1. Beat Lilly S. Dukes' score of 471 points under 120 seconds.
  2. Subdue Robert S. Dukes in his personal office, obtain his notebook, unlock the safe, collect the key and unlock the Silverballers.
  3. (Keycard required) Go into Robert's bunker outside the shooting range, obtain his notebook, unlock the safe to collect the key and unlock the Silverballers.

47 also has the ability to collect evidence as well. The evidence can be found inside the bunker as well. Above the bunker and on the field of the shooting range is a large Cannon. If the player shoots the fuse it will destroy a watertower. This will give the player the "Shiver Me Timbers" achievement.

Dialogue[]

This will be a list of all dialogue found within the location. Where characters speak about the gun shop and the events during the game. Here are some of the dialogues that are important in the location and level.

Mark B. Pon and shotgun customer[]

One of the first sets of dialogue is a civilian talking with Mark about Lynch. The two gossip on how much he swears and how he uses up all the shotgun ammo. The two debate on him before returning to the subject matter about ammo. Sure enough the customer is told about ammo arriving the next day.

Mark B. Pon and Irene Surber[]

Mark is approached by Irene as she tells him she wants to purchase a firearm. The two walk over to a Kazo TRG rifle. She is told by him how deadly and powerful the rifle is however she as much as she tries to persuade Mark through using her feminine looks to purchase the rifle Mark insists her to continue looking around.

Hope Officer Debates[]

In the Duckling Shooting Range two officers can be seen discussing about the Hope Cougars and Lenny coming back from Chicago. The two are seen discussing how they dislike them and how town has gotten very quiet since their leaving.

Lynch and Williams gnomes trouble[]

If the player steps outside onto the big and open gun range they will find James Seth Lynch yelling at Williams decorated gnomes. He even fires at a couple of them as well destroying those in the process. William fed up with his banter scolds and warns him to stop or he will be kicked out. If the player shoots the gnomes out of sight William will begin to scold and scream at Lynch telling him to take a break or he will be kicked out and banned from the shop permanently.

Behind the Scenes[]

Hitman Absolution shootingrange conceptart

The shooting range concept art.

In the Professional edition art book of Hitman: Absolution exists a page of the outside shooting range. Many props and posters were either re-worked or scrapped however a scripted sequence between Lilly S. Dukes, Lenny Dexter and one of the Hope Cougar's was meant to take place. It's unknown how the sequence was meant to play out though it does look as if Lenny and the Cougar were sexually harassing her. As for Lilly herself her posture and appearance is vastly different. Instead of holding her Pink Aries Charging Ram with one arm she holds it with two. She also has short brown hair compared to her long twin pigtails. On another page of the Professional edition exists a smaller piece of concept art however due to its low quality all that can be shown is weapons being displayed. In the Contracts Mode Lilly and Roberts names are changed from their respected McGarmond last names to "S. Dukes".

Out of Bounds[]

Outofbounds easteregg gunshop

The Out of Bounds unused easter egg containing animals in soldier uniforms.

If using a free-cam modification and the player goes past the gun shop exit exists a detailed design of animals wearing soldier uniforms and unreadable text. This can all be found on a brick wall texture outside of the exit. It's unknown if this is an unused easter egg or if it was a planned secret that was scrapped from the game.

Trivia[]

  • The Hope News Times had an officially created in-universe advertisement of the Gun Shop. This was only seen online to promote the game.
  • Interestingly the cut character "Ma" can be found on the scoreboard. This is a clear cameo as developers wanted her to remain cannon instead of all right scrapping her from the game.
    • Lenny Dexter can be found on the board as well. Alongside Mark B. Pon.
  • The gun shop sells a brand of accessories and products called "Lady Croft" most notably seen on the mat Lilly is standing on, and a large duffel bag on a couch in the duck shooting range. This is a clear reference to Lara Croft, as Hitman: Absolution and the Tomb Raider series were both (at the time) owned by Square Enix after their acquisition of Eidos.
  • If 47 completes the "It won't be stealing" challenge without raising any form of attention, nobody in the shop will notice 47 taking away his Silverballers. Not even Robert S. Dukes or the employee's.
  • Throughout the location exists old worn portraits of Lilly. Although unconfirmed they appear to be pre-release versions of her. As she uses her beta posture when holding her handgun.
  • The wrecked Anti-Aircraft tank seen on the far right exterior of the shooting range is based off the 1962 MMZ ZSU-23-4. Currently it is unknown how Robert acquired the tank in the first place.
