Partners, Then? is the tenth and final cinematic in the main story of HITMAN™. It follows the mission Situs Inversus.

Summary[]

After Providence mole Erich Soders and his contact Yuki Yamazaki are assassinated in Hokkaido, Arthur Edwards surprises Diana Burnwood on a train, proposing that in light of recent events, both the ICA and Providence can help each other take down the terrorist giving both their organizations grief. Despite her qualms about Edwards' and his employer's integrity, Diana appears to reluctantly consider a partnership when Edwards provides her an old photo of Agent 47 as a child.

Transcript[]

Fade in on Arthur Edwards walking down the aisle of a luxury train. He approaches Diana Burnwood reading a book in her seat.

Edwards: "Miss Burnwood."

Diana: "That's not what my ticket says."

Edwards slips into a seat opposite her, making her slightly uncomfortable.

Edwards: "We received your message. Loud and clear, I might add. Honestly, you could have just sacked the poor guy."

Diana: "I didn't catch your name."

Edwards: "No. You didn't. There'll be no retaliation. Not for Soders, nor any other recent fiascos. Someone's been meddling in our affairs, killing our operatives and making the ICA look like fools. I think you got close to that someone. Closer than we've ever been. That's why we're hiring you to take him down."

Diana: "I don't think so."

Edwards: "Don't rattle our cages, Miss Burnwood. You really have no idea."

Diana: "You spy on us. Bribe our people. And you have the gall to demand our help? No. You can't be trusted."

Edwards: "Even so. We've been around for a long, long time. I think we could help each other."

Edwards pulls out a polaroid photograph and slides it across the table to her, face down.

Edwards: "Some twenty years ago, your agency took in a young man with no past and--extraordinary skills. In his own special way he cares about you and vice versa. And ever since that time, you've never stopped wondering where he came from. And who made him what he is."

Diana: "There was a doctor. Some depraved experiment. But he's gone now."

Edwards: "Ah...Well if you believe the questions died with him, we have nothing further to discuss. If not? As I said, I think we could help each other. Partners, then? Cheer up, Miss Burnwood. We--we are the lesser evil. This terrorist? He wants nothing but chaos."

Edwards stands up to leave.

Diana: "He's only a terrorist if you win."

Edwards leans over the table, menacing.

Edwards: "Miss Burnwood. We won a long time ago. This? This is maintenance."

Edwards walks away. She picks up the photo, which reveals a haunting portrait of a very young Subject 47. She stares out the train window, pondering Edwards' offer.
