The Propane Flask (known in HITMAN™ as the "Explosive Propane Flask") is an object found in Hitman: Blood Money and an explosive and melee weapon in the World of Assassination Trilogy.
Description[]
Hitman: Blood Money[]
The propane tank makes it first appearance in Blood Money. It is blue in color with a flammable sign on its side. When shot at, the tank violently explodes, killing or injuring anyone nearby. Its explosion is similar to that of an RU-AP mine.
In the mission Flatline, the propane tank on the second floor of the clinic can be sabotaged, causing it to explode when used by a target.
HITMAN™[]
- "A propane flask. Can be shot at to create an explosion that will be considered accidental. Heavy enough to knock an individual unconscious in close combat."― In-game Description, HITMAN™ 2
It later reappears in HITMAN™. The tank is colored gray, with no visible markings anywhere. Unlike in Blood Money, it can be picked up by the player to use as a nonlethal melee weapon. Like Blood Money, the tank explodes when shot at. Deaths caused by this explosion are considered an Accidental Kill. They can also be used to blast open some doors.
Throwing the propane flask will cause it to begin leaking gas. This makes it possible to detonate the tank by subsequently tossing an incendiary device such as a flare close by. A sparking Car Battery (damaged by being thrown or shot) will also detonate the leaking propane, and the player should take care not to carry a damaged car battery in the vicinity of a ruptured tank. Notably, a smoking NPC lighting a cigarette near the leaking propane tank will trigger the explosion, allowing the player to easily stage accidents once the target's smoking location has been observed.
Once ruptured, the tank will leak gas indefinitely. Retrieving the tank without detonating it will cause it to revert to its intact state.

Trivia[]
- In reality, propane tanks do not explode when shot by firearms, although puncturing a tank could result in a jet of escaping gas that would propel it at a high enough velocity to cause serious injury or death.
- Its use in the mission Death in the Family is a direct reference to Beldingford Manor and target Alistair.
- When using the place option with the propane flask, if the player hovers the item over areas of fire, without actually placing it, it will still explode, despite not leaving 47's side.
- A leaking propane tank submerged in the underwater portions of Haven Island will still explode if exposed to flame or gunfire.
- In World of Tomorrow, Death in the Family and The Farewell, the player can dump propane flasks into chimneys, where they will detonate in the fireplaces below.
