Terrence Chesterfield (also known as Terry and "The Liability") is a building inspector and an Elusive target in HITMAN™ III. He appeared in the mission Apex Predator.

Biography[]

"In his parents' eyes, Terrence Chesterfield could do no wrong. Everything he drew was art, everything he wrote was prose. His mother was an office worker from a large family who had struggled to escape the shadows of her numerous (and more favored) brothers, while Terry's father had received a highly specialized education that went largely unused in his tedious government job. For both, their precious son was their means of recognition - a way to validate each other and soothe their insecurities."

Soaking up praise for the barest amount of effort he applied ensured that Chesterfield grew up with little appreciation for growth, the development of skills, or a solid day's work. It was a roundabout combination of networking by his father and credential-fluffing by his mother that got him on trick in his inspection career, yet the tremendous responsibility of the role meant nothing to him. He learned how to cut every possible corner in order to lighten his workload; whatever it took to get him back home in front of his television in time for his favourite programs.

Unsurprisingly he amassed more than his fair share of allies in the form of landlords, managers and property owners, who much like him, wanted as little extra paperwork on their desks at the end of the day as possible. All the better that this man hadn't even held his hand out expecting a bribe. "Ten-minute Terry" became a favourite because of his quick, no-grief "inspections" which amount to little more than a brief stroll around the property.

It was only a matter of time before these practices caught up with someone. Unfortunately it wasn't Chesterfield who was affected when the Lourdes street complex collapsed, nor did he feel any heat after a series of natural gas explosions leveled a block of flats he'd inspected only a week prior. It took the investigations of a private victims fund to establish that there was any connection at all.

Off the record, Chesterfield told anyone who would listen that there was a wave of insurance fraud going on, and that the dead and injured were causalities - even accomplices - in these crimes. On the record, his coterie of lawyers (charitably paid for by a local landlord's association) simply said whatever was needed to get their client off the hook. And back to work.

Description and Behaviour[]

A lackadaisical cynic, Terrence Chesterfield is a building inspector and an indirect murderer, with his cut-corners approach. He loops the bar area and the ground floor of the club, with a guide and an enforcer with him at all times.

He inspects the club as he goes through it, looking for weak infrastructure and scuffs. Terrence tends to show a lack of respect and concern for other people's safety, having indirectly killed several due to his lazy inspections. When he sees a man who slipped on the ground, he hypocritically calls him lazy and accuses him of faking his injuries for money.

Terrence's approach to cutting corners is seen throughout the level - he will frequently snoop around the juice bar for a drink, take a rest near the wall, initially refuse to walk up the stairs, and ignores the complaints of odors in the bathroom.
