"As a way of humanizing NPC's in the game due to the violence caused by Blake Dexter and hopefully let the player think about their own violent actions."
Full Disclosure

The Camera Operator (also known as The Cameraman or The DN1 Camerman, real name: Unknown) was a minor character cut from Hitman: Absolution. He was meant to appear in the mission "Blackwater Park".

Overview - Behind the Scenes[]

Originally during the development of Absolution, according to concept art[1] IO-Interactive wanted the Blackwater Park apartment complex to be a more darker and larger mission. This was due to Blake Dexter being involved in the murder of a young girl in which the player(s), Cosmo Faulkner and others all soon to realize just how much of a horrific monster he was. This concept was initially dubbed the "Blackwater Crimescene".

The concept was the player to arrive at the main entrance with a Chicago Police Car at the front. Near the back of the industrious complex would've been numerous Chicago Paramedical Technicans, Police Deputies and police detectives. However outside would've been an uncaring male news reporter and his camera-man colleague, reporting the news as everything was transpiring around them. And according to the game files, this sequence was probably half-way done. This is due to a combination of the fact that the Blackwater Park Exterior Guard's use Chicago Police NPC voice lines and the fact that the Camera Operator's NPC model was finished. This is thanks to the textures remaining in the retail game files under the filename "tv_crew".

Fate[]

When the sequence and idea were scrapped, so was the Camera Operator. His NPC model also scrapped along with his journalist colleague & the entire DN1 news company. In the final game, only his NPC textures remain, showing that this sequence was nearly finished but scrapped entirely. Fortunately, in HITMAN™ & HITMAN™ 2, the concept of a Camerman was re-used for Jay Smart, Jerry & Tyler Baker.

Trivia[]

  • The Camera Operator's NPC textures feature a name-tag. However due to its low resolution, it remains unknown what his true name really was.
