- "At some point during the production I worked on ideas for other assassins, for the future co-op sniper challange."
- ―Simon Lindwall on artstation.
The Ex-seal (formerly known as The Commando, real name: Unknown) is a sub-character cut during the development of Hitman: Sniper.
Overview[]
During development, Simon Lindwall was tasked with making alternate assassins for the future co-op feature in Hitman: Sniper. As the concept phase was in production, Simon wanted the protagonist to be a female assassin to play as another ICA agent while 47 was off on a mission. Concept art depicts her as either Caucasian or African-American[1]. The earliest concepts was to have her be a former Navy Seal soldier turned ICA Marksman/Assassin. According to reference images, she was supposed to use a vast array of assault rifles and firearms as well.
Fate[]
- "In the end these explorations were scrapped, but later we would get 2 new assassins in Hitman Sniper."
- ―Simon Lindwall.
As the concepts kept progressing, the concept of The Ex-seal was scrapped into her being more of an assassin type rather than a former soldier turned assassin. All elements and concepts of The Ex-seal evolved into "The Operative" but ultimately, the concept of "The Operative" was scrapped with most elements of the Operative being re-used for Knight in HITMAN™ 2: Sniper Assassin.
Trivia[]
- It is strongly possible that The Ex-seal is an indirect inspiration of LaSandra Dixon & Louisa Cain from Hitman: Absolution as they were ex-police officers turned assassins.
- Only one piece of concept art of "The Ex-seal" exists with most other pieces being an amalgamation of a Freelance assassin, ICA assassin and former Navy-Seal/Commando.
