The Farewell is the fifth and penultimate mission of HITMAN™ III.
Agent 47 receives intel from Olivia Hall that Diana Burnwood was spotted in Buenos Aires International Airport that morning, along with a group of Providence Heralds. This is connected to a top Providence operative Don Archibald Yates' upcoming retirement party at his vineyard estate in Mendoza. Despite Olivia's apprehension, 47 believes Diana has infiltrated the shadowy cabal and needs his help. Before leaving, Olivia warns 47 of the Herald assigned to watch over Diana: Tamara Vidal, former CIA surveillance expert and the Constant's most trusted aide. 47 dons his fanciest tuxedo and heads to Viñedo Yates to rendezvous with Diana and ascertain her allegiance...

Hall (COM): "I found something. Buenos Aires International Airport this morning."
Security footage of two women at check-in appears on his screen.
Hall (CONT'D): "Now watch this..."
A close-up of the footage reveals Diana Burnwood and a Providence Herald.
Agent 47: "Heralds."
On screen, Don Yates graces the cover of Might magazine.
Hall (CONT'D): "Don Yates of infamous New York law firm Morgan, Yates & Kohn. And get this, he's hosting his retirement party today."
Agent 47: "She's infiltrated them. She's sending a message. She needs my help."
Hall (COM): "Could've fooled me."
Agent 47: "You don't know her."
Hall (COM): "Anyway, if you're going after her, you'll need to deal with the Herald."
Hall pulls up intel and photos of Tamara Vidal.
Hall (CONT'D): "Her name's Tamara Vidal--former CIA asset and political firebrand. She's a master of surveillance and the Constant's most trusted aide. She'll have eyes everywhere. You won't get far as long as she's in the game."
Agent 47: "Why are you telling me this? I thought you were out."
Hall (COM): "Yeah. Old habits, I guess."
Hall herself appears on the laptop screen.
Hall (CONT'D): "Anyway, I...I need to go. See you around, 47."
Agent 47: "No. You won't."
Description[]
After completing his mission in Chongqing, 47 is contacted by Olivia, who reveals that Diana has been spotted travelling to Argentina, and she appears to have joined forces with Providence. Sensing that she has an ulterior motive at play, 47 immediately heads to Argentina.
47 meets Diana at the outskirts of the Viñedo Yates winery. She reveals that she plans to accept Arthur Edwards offer to become Providence's new Constant, with the intent of dismantling the organisation from within. However, two obstacles stand in her way of the position: Don Archibald Yates, the head of a New York law firm and the current favourite to become the Constant, and Tamara Vidal, a former CIA operative and the Constant's closest aide, who has been assigned to watch Diana for any signs of treason.
47 agrees to infiltrate Don Yates' retirement party, and eliminate both targets.

People of Interest[]
- Corvo Black
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
Corvo Black is Yates' personal fixer from New York. A former Narcotics cop, Black was fired for corruption and misconduct... He turned PI and eventually ended up on the payroll of Morgan, Yates & Kohn as an "investigative consultant". Black handles Yates' dirty business, be it evidence tampering, witness intimidation, burglary or murder. He is a fickle and stone-cold thug who is always looking for an edge. Handle with caution. |
- Don Yates
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
Don "Cojones" Yates is a power lawyer and founding partner in the top legal firm Morgan, Yates & Kohn. Vilified by progressives as an instrument of pure evil, Yates and his partners defend their wealthy clients by any means necessary, including intimidation, bribery, false evidence, entrapment, character assassinations, and flat-out murder. The firm came under the Providence umbrella in the mid-1990s and Yates is currently Arthur Edwards' top pick for succeeding him as The Constant. Don Yates is a shark of a man; eloquent, charismatic and deadly, his billion-dollar smile hides rows of jagged teeth. He is a man of refined tastes, an oratorical genius and master schemer, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. |
- Head of Security
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
According to Olivia's research, Juan Cortázar, the head of security at Viñedo Yates, is a former CICADA captain whom Yates hired for his security detail when Grey and his militia began his guerilla war on Providence operatives. According to his service file, Cortázar is loyal, disciplined and never questions orders. |
- Tamara Vidal
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
Tamara Vidal is a Providence "Herald" assigned to watch over Diana at the party. A former spy and surveillance expert, Vidal worked for years at a CIA interrogation black site and later enjoyed a short-lived fame in her native Argentina as the leader of a crypto-fascist political party, promoting a bold brand of meritocratic corporatocracy. As a Providence Herald, Vidal is in charge of the South American territory, stoking the fires of conflict in the region to divert attention away from Providence activities. She is a true believer in Providence which is, in many ways, the living embodiment of her elitist and meritocratic ideals. She is Arthur Edwards' best and most trusted aide. She is highly observant and will be watching events closely. In order for Diana's plan to work, she must be taken out. |
- The Junior Partner
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
Don Yates has urgently summoned a junior partner from Morgan, Yates & Kohn to the estate. The attorney, Aron Ford Jr. - who was also at Thornbridge Manor when Alexa Carlisle died - is carrying a ledger of important documents and is scheduled to see Yates in person. |

The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
Yates has invited the Heralds to a small gathering in his wine cellar. A celebration of his upcoming inauguration as the new Constant. Likely Yates wants to make a good impression with his future team. But he hadn't expected the team to include Diana Burnwood. |
- Pump System Blueprint
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
A blueprint of the pump system for the fermentation tanks. By the looks of it, an accident can be orchestrated through two simple steps. First, use a screwdriver to short-circuit the electrical outlet at the center of the fermentation atrium. Then use a wrench to sabotage the pump itself, releasing the interior seal and causing a disastrous leakage. Physics will take care of the rest. |
- Research File
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
The Junior Partner's documents from the archive of Morgan, Yates & Kohn. Information requested by Don Yates. It appears to be detailed files on the deaths of multiple high-profile clients of Morgan, Yates & Kohn. All deceased Providence operatives. All former targets. |
- Safe File
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
A document retrieved from Don Yates' safe. It reveals that Yates caused the data leak which ruined his wife Valentina's diplomatic career. A telecommunications client of Morgan, Yates & Kohn was being sued by the Semaphore Phone Company for corporate espionage. Yates, who led the defense, had his fixer Corvo Black obtain evidence that Semaphore had been illegally selling their user data to the Chinese. There was only one problem. Valentina was the Argentinian ambassador to China and her office had brokered the deal in exchange for a lucrative trade agreement. If the truth were to come out, Valentina would be implicated. Even so, Yates had the documents leaked to GNN. A huge scandal ensued, Semaphore went bankrupt and Yates won his case. But Valentina's career and reputation was ruined. The document proves that Yates will stop at nothing to win. Not even if it means throwing his own wife under the bus. No doubt, a fact which Valentina will be interested to learn. |

- The Plot to Kill Diana
The following information may contain spoilers. |
---|
Don Yates believes that DIana is an existential threat to Providence and considers it his duty as Constant to stop her. But he cannot openly defy Edwards. However, Valentina has a bold and elegant solution. The Heralds lostmany colleagues and clients in the war with Grey and if Yates appeals to their sense of loyalty and justice, they will likely agree to look the other way. He will then have Diana killed, frame her rogue assassin, Agent 47, and the Heralds will all confirm his story with Edwards. |
- The Private Tour

But perhaps a suspicious nature can be used against her. |

By merging all of the Providence-controlled corporations such as Ether, Kronstadt, Hamsun Oil, Milton-Fitzpatrick, Quantum Leap, Dynasty Global and Morgan, Yates & Kohn under one corporate umbrella, each company becomes untouchable, moving beyond any state jurisdiction. * Only available in the World of Assassination Deluxe Edition, or sold seperately in the WOA Deluxe Pack or Hitman 3 Deluxe Pack.
† Only available in the World of Assassination Deluxe Edition, or sold seperately in the WOA Deluxe Pack, Seven Deadly Sins Collection or Seven Deadly Sins Act 6: Envy.
Elusive Targets[]
This is a list of Elusive Targets that appeared in Mendoza, with reactivations occuring during HITMAN™ III.
Target Lockdown[]
If target lockdown is triggered, Don Yates will be escorted to the Villa Basement, the Level 2 Armory, or the Shrine to pray.
Tamara Vidal will head to the middle of the Parking Lot, or the Level 2 Security Room above the Barrel Room.
Despite not being a target, Diana is still treated as a VIP and she will go to and be sheltered at Vidal's lockdown spots in the event of a target lockdown. If Vidal is incapacitated, however, Diana's veteran ICA experience will kick in and she will promptly find something to duck behind to wait out the chaos, which will stop guards following her.
Trivia[]
- This is the first and only mission in the entire Hitman series in which Diana Burnwood appears as an in-game character, and is also nominally the client:
- Diana can be killed like any other character, both by the player or other characters. However, as she is marked as a VIP, her death will result in an immediate mission failure, and this also carries into Contracts mode, where she is unable to be marked as a target.
- Diana cannot be knocked out or subdued permanently by any means, including poisoning the ventilation system with a sedative, as completing the mission for the first time requires 47 to dance with Diana. She will however react to other poisons normally.
- Before a patch, Diana would be somehow unaffected after poisoning the wine room's ventilation system with sedatives. Currently, she would still be knocked out, but recovers immediately after the ventilation system has been turned off.
- No close-quarter combat prompts will appear when standing near Diana, nor can thrown weapons be aimed at her.
- Diana will not react to suspicious behavior by 47 and will even attempt to assist 47 in killing both targets. She will however flee and hide if 47 is engaging in open combat with the guards.
- If 47 eliminates Tamara Vidal and the chief winemaker by trapping them in the freezer during the tour around the vineyard, Diana will berate him, telling him that he is "callous" for killing an innocent civilian and that "she taught him better than that".
- Snipers and briefcases cannot be chosen when playing the mission for the first time or when choosing the "Vineyard Overlook" starting point, likely to prevent the player from killing Yates before meeting Diana. Despite this, it is possible to kill Yates by shooting at him from a distance.
- If Yates is killed prior to meeting Diana, 47 will make note of this during their meeting, surprising Diana.
- If Vidal is killed prior to meeting Diana, she will respawn after the meeting. Dialogue for killing Vidal exists in the games files, but goes unused.
- Both Helmut Kruger and Jason Portman were intended to be in this level. They were both cut due to budget restraints, but there is still a table reserved for Kruger.
- While being taken on the tour of the vineyard, Tamara will ask Diana about Blake Dexter from Hitman: Absolution, to which Diana will scoff and jokingly reply, "That was a parallel universe." This likely refers to Absolution's negative reception.
- This is the first time in the trilogy that Agent 47 narrates the mission stories, although his dialogue often does not match the written description.
- There is an occasional physics bug whereby throwing a target in to the grape crusher results in the victim's body being thrown back up and out, usually landing on the rim. This will not prevent the player from achieving the "Pulp Friction" challenge.
- If the vineyards sommelier Kenneth Flowers is asked to bring the incredibly rare 1945 Grand Paladin to Don Yates' meeting with the Heralds, he can be heard lamenting the decision, telling his assistant that people like Yates "know the price of everything, but the value of nothing". This is a paraphrase of a quote by Irish author, playwright and poet Oscar Wilde.
- The level is partially in reference to A Vintage Year from Hitman: Blood Money, both taking place in South American vineyards. This is also referenced in the challenge "A Vintage Year", awarded for retrieving the 1945 Grand Paladin wine bottle.
- The guards have noticeable interpersonal problems on this level when searching for 47, especially when he hides out in the attic, as they will often bicker and scold each other.
- Oddly, most staff disguises, including the waiter and chef, allow the player to tamper with the veranda's gas heat lamps without arousing suspicion. On other levels, such sabotage normally requires a specific maintenance disguise.
