The Man Behind the Curtain is the second cinematic in the main story of HITMAN™ III. It follows the mission On Top of the World, and the cinematic is set on 11th of January, 2021.
Summary[]
After assassinating two of the Providence Partners at the Burj Al-Ghazali in Dubai, Agent 47 meets with Lucas Grey to plan their next move; Grey dispels any qualms 47 has about Arthur Edwards' usurpation of the Providence fortune and shifts the blame onto Diana Burnwood, who he believes let him escape captivity on their freighter in the North Sea. Grey tries to inspire 47 to forge his own path instead of falling back in with her or the ICA, and shifts his attention to tracking the next Partner, Alexa Alice Carlisle.
Meanwhile, in an office building somewhere in an undisclosed city, Diana receives an encrypted call from Edwards, who gloats about his escape and threatens her with the notion of a new Providence.
Transcript[]
Lucas Grey (OS): "If that's your winning face, I'd hate to see you lose."
Agent 47: "We underestimated the Constant."
Agent 47: "He's not just after the money. He wants it all."
Grey: "We caught him once, we can do it again. And...well...we're not the ones who let him escape."
Agent 47: "You still don't trust her."
Grey: "I don't like executive decision makers. Look, you don't have to follow her, you know? Soon, this will be over. Maybe it's time to think about the future. You have to face the possibility that there's no going back. If the ICA knows what you did..."
Agent 47: "She'll make it right. She always does."
Grey: "We have a fix on Carlisle. Come on, we got a plane to catch. I hope you like the rain, 47."
47 follows Grey and they disappear into the market stalls. Meanwhile, somewhere in an undisclosed city, Diana picks up her phone, ringing with an encrypted call.
Edwards (COM): "Miss Burnwood."
Diana: "How did you...?"
Edwards (COM): "I have everyone's number. You really ought to know by now."
Diana: "You planned this. All of it..."
Edwards (COM): "Don't be silly. I just played the hand I was dealt."
Diana: "We'll find you."
Edwards (COM): "You had me, but where'd that get you?"
Diana: "We handed you an empire."
Edwards (COM): "It's for the best. The Partners were complacent, set in their ways. But power is more than just security. Providence can be an agent of change. Surely you understand. Or you will... soon enough."
Diana is left alone with these thoughts as we cut to black.Trivia[]
