The Pen and the Sword is the second Sniper Assassin mission in HITMAN™ 2 and the first mission introduced as part of the HITMAN™ 2 Expansion Pack 1.
Description[]
Agent 47 and his fellow snipers Knight and Stone have been contracted to rescue famous poet Han Ldong from execution
A national poet from the country of Khandanyang, Ldong defected to the US several years ago, and had been living under witness protection ever since. However, his location was somehow leaked, and he and his wife have been abducted by members of Khandanyang's elite military, the Heavenly Guard. They have taken the Ldongs to the Hantu Port in Singapore, where they will be transported to Khandanyang to be executed as a gift for the country's dictator, Sun Po.
To rescue the Ldongs, the Snipers must eliminate the three commanders of the Heavenly Guard, Jin Noo, Lhom Kwai and Re Thak, as well as all their bodyguards, while making sure the Ldongs are not harmed.

TWO DAYS AGO
Guards patrol a suburban home in the dead of night. Unseen operatives in the shadows lie in wait.
Kidnapper 1 (COM): "Hold positions."
Han and Ma Ldong are in bed, Han sitting awake, troubled. Outside, the thugs silently take out the guards as they approach the house. Through a crack in the front door, they toss a smoke grenade.

Kidnapper 2: "Move!"
They surround the Ldongs, now tied up.
Kidnapper 1 (COM): "Target acquired."
Under Jin Noo's observation, the Ldongs are whisked into a van and transported away.Briefing - Single Player[]
The targets are preparing to transfer Ldong and his wife to an awaiting cargo ship. The three are under orders not to allow Han Ldong to escape again so keep this one quiet, 47. Should the alarm be raised, we expect one or more of the targets to try to eliminate the hostages. They must survive for the mission to be a success.

Stone (VO): "Package retrieval mission, Knight. Han Ldong, former Khandanyang national poet, has been kidnapped from his suburban home in Vermont. We're going to get him back."
Stone (VO): "Our targets are Jin Noo, Lhom Kwai, and Re Thak, three ranking members of Sun Po's military elite known as the Heavenly Guard. The trio's in Singapore to grab Mr. and Mrs. Ldong from a shipping container smuggled in from the US."
Knight (VO): "If they're sent back, Sun Po will have them executed in some bizarre public ritual."
Stone (VO): "Yeah. The three targets are just about to be ready to transfer Ldong and his wife to a cargo ship here. They're on high alert and if the alarm goes off, we should expect one or more of the targets to kill the hostages. That cannot happen."
Knight (VO): "Ten-four. Let's save us a poet."

Target Lockdown[]
If alerted, Re Thak will evacuate to the cargo's main entrance, and Lhom Kwai will run back to his chopper on the helipad, meanwhile Jin Noo will run towards the hostages and execute one of them, which will eventually fail the mission.
