The Shadow Client is the eighth cinematic in the main story of HITMAN™. It follows the mission Club 27, and the cinematic is set one week after the assassinations in late October 2019.

One week after the assassination of indie rock artist Jordan Cross at the Himmapan Hotel in Bangkok, Diana Burnwood meets with Agent 47 at an airport terminal to discuss the recent death of the father, billionaire media mogul, Thomas Cross, shortly after he was kidnapped from his son's funeral in New York. Realizing that the contract on the son was an effort to lure out the father in order to strip billions from his offshore accounts, Diana concludes that all the contracts in weeks past were masterminded by a "shadow client" who tipped off legitimate clients into contacting the ICA. Though 47 fails to see the pattern, Diana believes the ICA might be in danger depending on what sort of game this so-called shadow client is playing.
Transcript[]
A news report plays in the background as Diana Burnwood takes a seat in an airport rest area.
News Announcer (TV): "The body of billionaire media mogul Thomas Cross was discovered earlier this evening, slain by multiple gunshot wounds. Cross was scandalously kidnapped this morning at the funeral of his only son, acclaimed rock musician Jordan Cross. A notorious recluse, Thomas Cross had not left his private island in years and authorities are now looking into a connection between the two deaths."
Agent 47 approaches and takes a seat behind Diana.
Diana: "Not by a longshot. Thomas Cross had billions in hidden offshore accounts, all stripped clean within hours of the kidnapping. Someone wanted the son dead to lure out the father. Someone smart enough to stay in the shadows, while we did the wet work and the Highmoores picked up the check."
Agent 47: "A shadow client?"
Diana smiles and nods all too knowingly.
Agent 47: "Someone got rich, the contract was just. How is this our problem?"
Diana: "I know you don't care about politics, 47. But ICA is neutral, always has been. We can't allow ourselves to be manipulated. Besides..."
Agent 47: "It's happened before."
Diana: "Italy. Morocco. Paris. All our clients got their intel the same way, anonymous tips from a hidden source. Each contract perfectly legit, yet part of a grander design."
Agent 47: "I don't see the pattern."
Diana: "Somebody does. The board has asked us to chase down this shadow client, and our analysts are closing in as we speak."
Agent 47: "I know that tone."
Diana: "Someone's playing a game, 47. The question is...against whom?"
Diana picks up her bag and starts to walk away. She glances at 47 before leaving. Fade to black.Trivia[]
