Vaughn M. Boddy (also known as "DeadGuard_Reception" in the game files) is an unique dead-on-arrival/cut minor character in Hitman: Absolution. He appears in the mission "Rosewood" during the first two segments, Victoria's Ward & Orphanage Halls.
Overview[]
In February, 2013 as Agent 47 goes to pick-up Victoria to protect her from Edward Wade & his gang, gunshots and loud explosions can be heard across the Rosewood Orphanage. When 47 & Victoria enter the upstairs security office, a CRTV will turn on automatically, showing Edward Wade's men shooting a security guard at the front desk to death then shooting the camera's. Later in the orphanage halls, 47 will find the corpse of Vaughn without a firearm.
Behind the Scenes[]
In the game files of Absolution, it is worth nothing that at one point in time, Vaughn was going to be a minor character the player would've interacted with. Evidence points to Vaughn's unused Contracts Mode icon and the fact that his name "Vaughn M. Boddy" still exists on his model in the mission and can be found with the help of modding the game. This heavily implies that earlier in development, Vaughn would've possibly been an VIP minor character like his colleague, Jim Joyner. It is unknown why Vaughn was reduced to a corpse yet his name and C.M. icon still remain in the game files, but the latter could be leftovers as his colleague "Rodney E. Coleman" shares a very similar fate.
According to E3 April, 2012, the corpse of Vaughn remained the same however his upper torso was to have been slouched forwards[1]. This was removed in the final game for unknown reasons.
Trivia[]
- Vaughn shares the same model as his deceased colleague, Rodney E. Coleman.
- No firearm is found near Vaughn, this means he was possibly unarmed when killed.
- His security disguise can still be used and his corpse can still be dragged by the player.
- Due to the player never actually interacting with Vaughn while he was still alive, it is slated he is an unseen character.
