Zachary Carlisle is a major character in the mission Death in the Family and a minor character in the Elusive Target: The Procurers in HITMAN™ III.
Background[]
Zachary Carlisle was the younger brother of Alexa Christine Carlisle and Montgomery Carlisle. In 1974, Zachary and Alexa murdered Montgomery by pushing him off the roof of Thornbridge Manor in a plot to make Alexa the heiress of the family. The family butler, Mr. Fernsby, helped the two cover up his murder.
Montgomery's murder resulted in Zachary suffering a mental breakdown and being institutionalized. After returning to Thornbridge Manor, Zachary became a recluse and stayed in the manor for the rest of his life, spending his time tending to his garden of exotic plants.
Death in the Family[]
Shortly after Alexa's fake death, Zachary is found dead in his room the morning Alexa returns to Thornbridge Manor, in an apparent suicide. Believing that Zachary was murdered, Alexa summons private detective Phineas Whitmer to investigate his death. Zachary is found lying dead in his bed, having consumed whiskey tainted with poison from a rare plant at 10 o'clock the night before.
Zachary's half-burnt diary can be found in the fireplace of Mr. Fernsby's quarters. The diary reveals that Zachary was going to confess to a publisher (which he had discussed with Rebecca Carlisle) that he and Alexa committed the murder. The diary also reveals Fernsby's role in covering up the murder.
Further investigation reveals that Montgomery's illegitimate daughter, Emma Carlisle, is Zachary's murderer. Having witnessed him and Alexa murder her father, Emma decided to get her revenge by marrying into the family. She poisoned Zachary by extracting poison from one of his plants, allowing her to become the heiress of the family fortune. Furthermore, a letter from Montgomery can be found stating his desire to put Alexa in charge of the family, meaning his murder was pointless.
After gaining sufficient evidence, 47 can discuss his findings with Alexa. If Fernsby is falsely accused of murdering Zachary, Alexa will believe he did it to protect the family's legacy and pardon him. If 47 claims Zachary committed suicide, he will tell Alexa about Montgomery's letter. Believing that she is responsible for her brothers' deaths, she will commit suicide after the meeting.
